Mary Maude

Mary Maude loves the ocean, music and sculpting in clay. Take a deep breath, clear your mind and let the journey begin.

Read the name of her work, which is normally borrowed from a song title or lyrics, and then allow your eye to begin tracing the realistic shape of the chosen subject. As you turn each female curve, or review the strong line from an animal's body, the titles will immerse themselves into the artwork.

Unique textures are created using multiple tools (traditional and found). "I add the feel and movement of water through my use of texture." states Mary Maude. Each piece is one-of-a-kind, with the artist spending up to two weeks in shaping before her glaze and firing. Her choice of earthenware clay offers an elasticity that is known for helping to capture fine details. Current art pieces are neutrally-glazed; the upcoming series will have hues flowing from deep blues to rich browns.

A quote from Mary Maude's website biography: "But I was now in Seventh grade and I had my first real art class with a real art teacher who talked about real artists." This high school art teacher believed in her student, gifting her tools, clay and encouragement. The clay is
long-gone, but the tools continue to serve Mary Maude as she pursues a full-time career in the arts. Thank You from all of us, Mrs. Kiever.

As a young girl, the ocean and it's never-ending waves captured a permanent place in Mary Maude's heart.
